So let’s talk brushes! Choosing the right brush for the job is key to the finish.
For a soft , organic look pick Annie’s pure bristle round brush. Try not to load too much paint onto the brush as it holds a lot of moisture and spreads beautifully. There are three sizes depending on the piece you plan to paint. The small and middle sizes are the two most often chosen. The flat synthetic bristle brushes are great for a smooth even finish especially on surfaces such as melamine and Formica. They are terrific for cutting in too! The sponge roller also creates a smooth even finish (again, be careful not to overload the roller and be light handed to avoid “tram lines” at each side.) Lacquer is best applied with either a flat brush or a roller. The Wall Paint loves being applied with Annie’s big brush by the way!
CARING FOR ANNIE SLOAN BRUSHES
After painting with Chalk Paint™, squeeze out as much excess paint from your brush as you can, then wash your Chalk Paint™ Brush well with warm water to rinse out all the colour. Hang to dry with the bristles pointing downwards to avoid rust and glue deterioration.
Whether you apply Chalk Paint™ Wax with a Chalk Paint™ Wax Brush or Chalk Paint™ Brush, simply wash your brush with warm water and grease-cutting soap to clean it. Harsh detergents may shorten the life of your natural bristle brushes.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ Brushes, Chalk Paint™ Wax Brushes, and Stencil Brushes are pure bristle. This means they’re made from natural materials, including hog hair. The benefit of this is that they hold a large amount of paint and their natural split ends are ideal for achieving expressive paint effects.
There are also vegan alternatives to our Chalk Paint™ Brushes and Chalk Paint™ Wax Brushes. Made from synthetic fibres, but designed to produce the same high-quality paint effects.
